Heating Season

Thanks to the warm and extended summer most of us are still doing A/C installations. But, believe it or not the time has come to start thinking heating.

The fall pre-season program has been sent to all Dealers, it offers extended equipment warranties, extended terms and discounts. We have received requests from dealers that wish to order some 10 SEER equipment before it is depleted. If you wish this equipment may be added to your fall preseason order for extended terms.

Selling up from 13 SEER

There is a very important change coming up in our industry that is going to have a major effect on how we sell equipment, and I think we all had better be prepared to deal with it.

The change is the increase in minimum SEER rating to 13 SEER(UANC), which goes into effect in January 23, 2006.

In our industry, we have found that a high percentage of the people like to purchase something other than the lowest-priced or highest-priced systems. That is, we like to be able to offer a good-better-best scenario to the customer. We are good at selling the top-of-the-line equipment, but still that represents less than 25% of unit sales. And, we are not really competitive in the extreme low end of the market. Therefore, we need to have available three levels of equipment.

Now I realize there are other things to sell besides efficiency noise level and comfort level being among the most obvious. But remember, we are going to be telling the buyer that this new unit has a SEER of 13 30 % better than the previous minimum of 10.

What are we then going to offer as an upgrade? Will we have a 14,15,16, or higher SEER available, and will we be able to provide it honestly? As RUUD dealers we should be very concerned about our reputation and want to make sure that a system we sell provides the advertised SEER. If that higher SEER can only be accomplished using a variable-speed furnace or air handler, then thats the way we should offer it to our customers

Degree Days

As of August 31 the cooling days in NYS are a whopping 37% higher than in the previous year! If you think we've had a hot year you're right!

What are Degree Days? - Degree Days are a sum of how far the average daily temperature deviates from 65'F.

Utility companies use these numbers to estimate energy usage - It works well with air-conditioning sales as well!
